Hannah gets involved in Behind the Scenes Day
Hannah knew from the start she wanted to study fashion design at Iowa State. However, she didn’t know quite how she wanted to spend her time outside of her classes. She had heard about the fashion show, but thought it would be too much work. But after attending the show and after party, Hannah knew she wanted to get involved.
She received an email about Behind the Scenes Day and decided to apply. She was accepted and was enrolled into the three-credit Fashion Show class. Hannah served on the planning committee for Behind the Scenes Day, which is an event for prospective students to come and learn about the apparel program. Despite the fact it was a class, Hannah said she loved every minute.
“I enjoy it,” she said. “It doesn’t feel like class—it’s fun! And I see the potential to do something like it in the future.”
As a senior, Hannah decided she wanted to take on a higher leadership role, so she applied to be a director for Behind the Scenes Day. The process included an application, interview, and voting. Hannah was thrilled when she heard she was one of four directors.
Hannah said she chose to be involved in Behind the Scenes Day because she could share the knowledge she learned as a College of Human Sciences Ambassador with visiting students. She also liked how it was a smaller group of people working together.
“It feels more unique,” she said. “It’s a part of the Fashion Show, but there are a lot of unique aspects. It’s a more close-knit group working together, which is what I like to do.”
Although she chose to work with Behind the Scenes Day, Hannah suggests all students to get involved in the Fashion Show in a way that suits them individually.
“I definitely encourage people to get involved in the Fashion Show,” she said. “It’s something you don’t get anywhere else in the Midwest. There are so many different parts, so your major doesn’t matter. There’s something for everyone.”
